I think longer unemployment benefits do cause people to take longer to find another job because they have something to support themselves and perhaps a family. Why bother finding another job when you can sit at home all day and get paid decently for it? That is most likely a thought that goes through a lot of minds. Especially with the way the economy is now it is also difficult to find another job so unemployment benefits are very helpful in giving extra time in finding another job.
I could also see this as a reason for the prolonged amount of time with the lock out at GPC. As long as the people are receiving SOME money they won't be pushed as hard into signing a contract
