Economists weight the benefit of waiting in line with the costs. I will opine that once you have selected a line, you should stay in that line and not jump.
I might opine the same, unless, I realize that the person in the next line over is a lone male. That is ALWAYS the fastest line, in my experience and most definitely worth the jump.
